Construction standards for plastic runways

2019-10-17

1. The standard runway is 400 meters in length and shall consist of two parallel straights and two curves of equal radius.

With the exception of grass runways, the inside of the runway shall be demarcated by a cornice made of suitable material. The prominence shall be approximately 5 centimeters high and at least 5 centimeters wide.

2. The length of the runway shall be measured 30 centimeters beyond the outer edge of the inner cornice. If there is no protrusion, it shall be measured 20 centimeters beyond the outer edge of the marking line. Note: The IAAF Handbook of Athletics Facilities contains all the technical information on track construction, design and marking. This rule gives the basic principles that should be followed.

3. For all track and field events of 400 meters and under, each athlete shall occupy a divided lane with a minimum width of 1.22 meters and a maximum width of 1.25 meters, with a divided line of 5 centimeters wide, and all divided lanes shall be of the same width. The length of the first lane shall be measured in accordance with paragraph 2 above and the length of the other lanes shall be measured 20 centimeters beyond the outer edge of the inside lane line.

Note: The lane splitting width shall include the right-hand lane splitting line

Plastic runway is constructed on asphalt or cement foundation, and the foundation practice is more or less the same as road construction. The surface flatness of the foundation is required to ensure the consistent thickness and uniform elasticity of the plastic surface layer, and the quality requirements of the foundation are as follows:

Slope: horizontal <1% (curved road 8 ‰, straight road 5 ‰, semicircular area 5 ‰), longitudinal <1 ‰, high jump area <0.4%, the surface should be flat and smooth, smooth drainage.
Flatness: the pass rate of flatness is above 95%, and the error of 3 meters straightedge is 3mm.
Positioning: In order to accurately construct and draw lines, four semi-circular tangent points and two centers of the runway site should be marked out by firm and distinctive markers.
Drainage: Drainage system must be discharged two hours after heavy rain. In frozen areas, it is best to add a layer of geotextile buffer layer between the asphalt layer and the gravel layer. The foundation along the drainage trench should be specially waterproofed.
Strength and stability: the foundation should have certain strength and stability, with even and solid surface, no cracks, no rotten edges, and straight and smooth joints. The cushion layer is compacted, with the degree of compactness greater than 95%, and there is no significant wheel tracks, floating soil loose, waves and other phenomena after the medium-sized roller has been pressed.
